The following is a message from the president of Keller Peak Repeater Association to their members regarding a recent outage of the repeater.
Hello everyone.
I wanted to give you an up date as to what has been done to the repeater this past weekend. So far we have
- Re-installed the main 27 volt power supply & added a backup that is on all the time in case the main one fails.
- Repaired the repeater & Weather Receiver.
- Replaced the control radio with a donated one from K6dtk & the Famcom repeater trustee.
- Installed a 40 amp dc power strip whereas every component we are using is plugged into it's own fused connection.
- Installed a new back-up repeater the we can turn on in the event that the main repeater fails.
- We do need to purchase & install another repeater antenna for our back-up repeater. It's currently on a small low level antenna on the roof.
These sort of problems are not of the norm. We lost power on the hill when the very first storm arrived, and when the power came on seven days later, we were hit with a surge that took out the power supply and it caused us to run on 27 volts instead of 13.8 and burned out quite of few items on the hill. So we are slowly getting everything back online.
The only component that isn't back online is our PA amp. This still needs to be repaired. This means that we still aren't up to our normal full power yet however the repeater seems to be working fairly well. We are and will always continue to provide the users as well as the emergency response agency's a high level repeater with as current technology that we can afford. I have been pricing new repeater antenna's and most of them are between $900. & $1300. If someone has an idea on how we can raise this kind of money i would appreciate any suggestions or ideas you may have. I will also pursue the county fire and some of the other contacts we have within our repeater circle of friends.
For now 73's and thanks again for your support and understanding when we were going through the trouble spots.
